The Comfort Inn Airport is owned and operated by Clayton Hospitality Inc., a second generation family business renowned for excellence in hospitality throughout the province. The Sparkes family has been in the hotel business since the late 60’s and has owned numerous properties across Atlantic Canada. Current hotel holdings include; The Comfort Inn Airport, St. John’s, The Comfort Inn, Gander.

Clayton Sparkes was a true entrepreneur, he started as a butcher and through an investment ‘gone bad’ he unexpectedly became a hotelier in 1968. Although Clayton knew little about the business at the time, he quickly learned the he must become a slave to his customers and his employees. He also was well known for saying that the hotel business is made up of ‘a million little things’. This mantra is alive and well within the company today as his children, Bruce, Steve and Judy, maintain the family tradition of taking care of those million little things.

The Comfort Inn Airport, formerly The Airport Plaza, was purchased by the Sparkes family in 2004. At that time, the hotel was running the lowest occupancy in the City of St. John’s and the hotel redefined the need for TLC. An extensive renovation in 2005 followed by an expansion in 2010 has resulted in the property becoming a dominant force in the St. John’s marketplace. Now boasting 144 guest rooms, meeting facilities for 200 and a full service restaurant in addition to all the other amenities and services you’d expect from a market leader. This hotel is blessed with a dedicated team of hospitality professionals many who have worked here for their entire careers. The property was successful in being recognized as the Choice Hotels Canadian Hotel of the Year in 2009.

We welcome the opportunity to host you during your next visit to St. John’s, we are committed to taking care of the million little things to ensure your stay is memorable.
